Spring Term 1975

8/1: Back to school. Am 2nd in Upper XI, captain of dorm and table and Head Boy.
9/1: Not a bad day. Play rugby. First responsibilities as Head Boy. Have moved down in form. Have fire practice. Time going very fast. Have quite dull weather.
10/1: Have a very good game of rugby. Score a try. Draw 8-8. Have singing third lesson. Time is dragging slowly.
11/1: Have a terrible game of rugby. Have a film : 'The Mouse That Roared.' Have my music lesson last thing, miss Latin.
12/1: First Sunday of term. Go to camp in half hol. Join a few more people to camp. Write home. Have pepsi from Welbroke-Smith. Cut barbed wire.

13/1: Have german. Go to dentist in the afternoon. He fiddles around with teeth.
14/1: Rains heavily. Have indoor games. Then have a half-hol until tea. Been at school nearly a week.
15/1: Have sweets. Have a superb game of rugby. Welch disappears, to be found in cupboard. Have a half hol. Been at school a week.
16/1: Have shotgun shooting. Great fun - Dick does some shooting. Pearson and de Pury break light. Matron gets cross because we chased her back to bed. Read in chapel.
17/1: Have singing. 2nd Friday. Rain, so have only a bit of rugby.
18/1: Got cough last night, so have to read in half-hol and have no grog. Wheeze a bit at night.
19/1: Go to camp. Start to get a sore throat and begin to lose voice. Going out in a week.

20/1: Am in bed all day. Listen to radio and tape recorder. I should be up by Wednesday.
21/1: Rains heavily. Lose my voice completely. I will not be up by tomorrow. Still in sick dorm.
22/1: Still in sick dorm. Mum comes, brings Maltesers. Rest of school have a concert. School's 27th anniversary.
23/1: STILL in sick dormitory. Miss shotgun shooting which I am really cross.
24/1: Get up and go into the flat. Go down for lunch and for supper. Watch television in flat.
25/1: EXEAT
26/1: Really boring. Only one in camp left - 1st exeat. 6p sweets. Read in chapel. Get a look at gun.

27/1: Get 'on games'. Play rugby. Rains like hell. Do translation in French E.P.. Last day on yellow pill. Time going fast.
28/1: Rains again. Have rugby. Film in library. Am on games, after being in bed. Pearson gets blown by Campbell.
29/1: Match is cancelled because of rain. No Latin. Been at school for 3 weeks.
30/1: Have best day this term. Do shotgun shooting. Hit 3 clays out of 10 on first time of firing at anything moving.
31/1: Find out I am scrum half for tomorrow's match. Stop raining at last. have singing.
1/2: Manage to say 'white rabbits'. Match versus West Hill Park. Lose 6-4. Mum comes with two Caramacs.
2/2: Have great fun in half-holiday. Sawyer's birthday. He goes out. Get caught last night.

3/2: Have good game of rugby. Win 38-0. Score two tries. Have art and scripture.
4/2: Have a trial for tomorrow's match. Have double science. Weather evry cold indeed.
5/2: Match versus New Place. 20(?)-0. Dad comes. PJ playing. Charles and Barbera come. Very cold again.
6/2: One of the worst Thursdays this term. Shotgun shooting is cancelled as boiler burst.
7/2: Have quite a boring Friday.Nothing at all. Have a good game of rugby.
8/2: Home match versus Farleigh House. Win 12-6. Mum and Ginny come.
9/2: Go out.

10/2: Go to dentist and have a tooth out. Do not have lunch at school but go to Lite Bite. Buy Tubular Bells.
11/2: Have singing. Have to stay in as it rained and had a half-hol. My tooth hurt a bit.
12/2: Match versus West Downs is cancelled until tomorrow because of rain. Learn we are missing shooting.
13/2: 1st XV win 30-4. Play really well. Beat west Downs. Miss shooting. Quick practice.
14/2: Not long until half term. Have a bit of latin EP but go to dentist to have a space maintainer put in.
15/2: Have New Place sevens. Lose three matches and win one. Get really blown up by Mr Broadbent.
16/2: Have a good half hol. Go to camp. Build a new one at the pig sties.

17/2: Have no french except for EP. Mrs Stevenson and Ed ill with flu.
18/2: Have two Latins. Mr Watkinson gets furious with all the seniors. Have english prep.
19/2: All this week I have read in chapel. Mrs Stevenson is back. Wainwright and I apologise to Mr B.. Match v Red Rice.
20-24/2: Half term

24/2: Back to school
25/2: First day back. Have rugby and two sciences. Not bad day. Dull weather. Revise.
26/2: Revise for the exams. Miss a bit of half-holiday because of Beggar's Opera. Match is cancelled.
27/2: Exams. Have bloody awful exams. Have shooting. Move onto 20 bore. Hit 3 out of 15.
28/2: No games because of Beggar's Opera. Go all the way through the Opera.
1/3 - 6/3: Pages eaten by dog.

7/3: Do Beggar's Opera. Mum comes again. It goes very well although we had a bad audience.
8/3: Last night of Begar's Opera. Very good audience. Mum goes without saying good-bye.
9/3: Have quite a good half-hol. Get sweets. Not long until end of term.

10/3: Great panic when Mr B discovers sheets down Rhino tunnel.
11/3: Mr Broadbent gets us up at 6.40 and makes Rhino each write an essay about the sheets. I am liable to be demoted from Head Boy.
12/3: The saga of the 'ripped sheets' goes on. All prefects and seniors are semi-demoted. They have to do their duty with no priveledges. Match versus Farleigh - lose.
13/3: The saga rises to a climax. In one of my 2 talks with Mr B he tells me that the worst is we will have to wait until the end of term to be reinstalled. General hoo-hah. Shoot. Hit 2 clays/14. Use the 16 for 9 shots.
14/3: Dramatic end to the ripped sheet saga. All of us (except Welbroke Smith) are reinstated. All goes well. Wainwright's team (I am in it) win 1st game sevens.
15/3: Concert. Mum comes. Absolute rubbish. Do not play but I sing songs from B Opera.
16/3: Last Sunday. As usual, chapel is disastrous. Have good fun in half-hol. Record Top 20.

17/3: Have an extra shooting. Hit one. Use 12 bore and 16. Trunks out. Start packing.
18/3: Have 'best 7 of 2nds vs worst of 1sts' game. 2nds win. Snows a bit.
19/3: Staple Marsh Courtier. Have feast. Sit next to Di-Di. Make a muck of 3 cheers.
20/3: End of term.
